IN RESIDENCE Social Dancing at Folkist Space with Summer McCall!
Learn SCOTTISH, IRISH, and AmeRICAN GROUP DANCES TO LIVE FIDDLE & FLUTE MUSIC!
On Saturday March 28th at 7PM, join artist resident Summer McCall for a ceilidh dancing workshop at the Clinton Historical Society at 1 Fountain Street in Clinton, NY. Note that this is a venue change— due to interest, we’re moving a few doors down the block to a bigger space!
What is a ceilidh, anyway?
A ceilidh (in Scottish) or ceili (in Irish) is a community party that usually features music and dancing. Dances are quick to learn and fun to participate in. This short workshop is beginner-friendly and open to all ages, so if you’ve always been curious about ceilidh dancing / contra dancing but don’t know how to begin, come join us! We’ll have live flute and fiddle tunes by Mike Carroll and Nora Revenaugh.
The dance workshop will be paired with an artist Q&A chat and time to meet the artist resident over refreshments.
NO TICKETS REQUIRED FOR THIS EVENT (admission is by free-will donation) but if you want to contribute to our refreshments budget, you can choose to support the night by buying a ticket here.
About the artist
Summer is a vibrant force in the Celtic arts. She is a booking agent with FLi Artists, a multi-festival director (including the Boston Celtic Music Festival and founder of the Carolina Celtic Music Festival), a ceilidh dance caller, and a Celtic fiddler/cellist. Her naturally extroverted and effervescent energy has connected her with a global network of Celtic and Folk artists. Raised in the traditional Scottish music and dance community of Northern California’s Sierra Nevada foothills, Summer now calls Boston home (when she isn’t on the road performing or producing Celtic events). For more than 20 years, her passion and dedication have centered on sustaining and celebrating traditional Celtic music and culture.
About our IN RESIDENCE Nights
”In residence” nights at Folkist Space are part of our mission to restore the arts to their natural habitat— our kitchens, living rooms, and local neighborhoods. A cross between an artist performance and a house party, each “In Residence” night invites a Folkist Space artist resident to share a peek behind the scenes into their art practice. Immersive art sharing is followed by refreshments and a chance to meet & mingle with neighbors and our resident artist.
SUPPORT THE ARTISTS!
We keep ticket prices low or free to keep these intimate events accessible, but our artist residents are generously donating their time! We will have a cash donation jar and a QR code at all IN RESIDENCE events. We ask that attendees offer an at-will donation to the artist of any amount they can afford— 100% of proceeds from these events goes directly to our artist residents.
