On March 7th at 7PM, join artist resident Hannah Quaintance for a craft night at Folkist Space!
Hannah will teach visible mending techniques for repairing small holes in socks, sweaters, or other woven garments. Bring your own well-loved garment to repair, and any supplies you like to use at home. If you don't have your own darning egg, yarn/thread, tapestry needles, or fabric patches don't worry— there will be extras available.
This workshop also includes an artist Q&A, a peek into Hannah's own textile art practice, and time to socialize over light refreshments.
About the Artist
Hannah is an anthropologist, artist, and educator based in Buffalo, NY. Learning to weave from her grandmother, she has a deep appreciation for the stories told through textiles and for the ways that materials can be reused and transformed. Most often, her work is heritage-based, small scale, and functional - living in the world like a mended, well-loved garment, collaged pages in a journal, or locally foraged botanical resources used as natural dyes. A critical part of her creative work is facilitating textile workshops in Western New York, particularly in partnership with Stitch Buffalo. Currently, she is interested in maps as personal meditations on the geography and material culture of relationships and the ways that memory is written into familiar landscapes.
About our IN RESIDENCE Nights
”In residence” nights at Folkist Space are part of our mission to restore the arts to their natural habitat— our kitchens, living rooms, and local neighborhoods. A cross between an artist performance and a house party, each “In Residence” night invites a Folkist Space artist resident to share a peek behind the scenes into their art practice. Immersive art sharing is followed by refreshments and a chance to meet & mingle with neighbors and our resident artist.
SUPPORT THE ARTISTS!
We keep ticket prices low to keep these intimate events accessible, but they only cover the cost of refreshments! Our artist residents are generously donating their time, and we will have a cash donation jar and a QR code at all IN RESIDENCE events. We ask that attendees offer an at-will donation to the artist of any amount they can afford— 100% of proceeds from these events goes directly to our artist residents.
