cailleach on the green
a wood fired sauna experience
Sauna and thermal bathing evolved simultaneously in many forms— both sacred and secular— across the ancient world. In the modern world, science has now confirmed that these "contrast therapy" practices are a healthy, drug-free way to regulate our noradrenaline and dopamine levels, decrease cortisol, support cardiovascular health, and increase feelings of well-being.
Your host Nora, an LMT licensed in hydrotherapy and contrast therapy, discovered wood-fired sauna during a personal journey to treat the chronic pain and autonomic dysfunction of Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome. There are few publicly accessible wood-fired saunas in New York State, and when she got tired of traveling to Maine or Montreal, Nora decided that it was time to bring sauna back to Central New York.
We’re currently offering sauna in our Kyfe Sauna Tent at The Garret on the Green. This pop-up installation is The Garret's prequel to a future on-site sauna complex and includes a wood-burning sauna stove, hot water with essential oils for making löyly, a bucket of seasoned and split wood for your sauna session, and homemade Garret candles for ambience. For brave guests who want to experience the full benefits of contrast therapy, buckets of ice water will be available for cool-down between rounds of sauna.
