Apply to the Folkist Space Residency
Application Guidelines
Before completing your application, review all the Residency FAQs on the Kirkland Art Center website. These include what to expect from our residencies, who is eligible to apply, and the selection criteria our jury uses to review applicants. When you’re ready, add the application to your cart and complete the application form that launches during checkout.
There is a $5 application fee to cover the cost of running this website and confirm your commitment to attending if selected. This residency is run by working-artist volunteers with full-time day jobs, and we keep our application fees low to make this residency accessible to applicants.
Because this is an artist-run residency and our team juggles many roles, our email turnaround time can often take at least three days. Please keep this in mind as you prepare your application, and think about applying before the final deadline if you will have questions or need support. Our FAQs are helpful, and we find that reviewing them answers most questions!
AVAILABLE DATES: To be selected for a residency, you (and your collaborator/s if applicable) must be available for at least one of the following residency dates:
Feb 3rd - 9th, 2025
Feb 17th - 23rd, 2025
Mar 31st - Apr 6th, 2025
Apr 14th - 20th, 2025
You will be asked to indicate your preference and availability on our application form.
WHO SHOULD APPLY: Please review the KAC’s Residency Page for frequently asked questions and full details on eligibility. This year, our four spots have space held for:At least one musician or dancer at any career stage (the Tom Bell & Ginger Parker Residency)
At least two emerging artists working in any medium
OUR LOCATION: This residency is located in Clinton, New York, a small town in the Mohawk Valley. Selected residents are responsible for their own travel.
FEES: To confirm your commitment to attending if selected, we have a $5 application fee. There are no additional costs to attend for selected residents.
WORK SAMPLES: While we waive a more rigorous portfolio requirement to keep our residencies accessible to emerging artists, we do want to get a sense of your voice, the themes of your work, and your current artistic practice in your application. Our application will ask for a link to something that you think represents you well, which can be anything from your personal website to a published piece, a video of a performance, or a social media post featuring your art. Do not submit password protected links, these will disqualify your application.
For emerging artist spots, our committee does not base decisions solely on the current state of a portfolio— but we are looking for artists who demonstrate original voice, real dedication to their work, and exciting room for growth regardless of their current level of mastery.
***All applications must be submitted and received by midnight on October 20th, 2024 to be considered.
